Presentation from Athens Soil & Water Conservation
Whitney Byrd, Conservation Education Coordinator for the Athens Soil and Water Conservation District, recently visited first graders at Morrison-Gordon Elementary School to promote the 2026 Coloring Contest. This year’s theme is “Soil: Where It All Begins!” 
Students enjoyed an interactive presentation about how many everyday items come from soil. They also listened to Dirt: The Scoop on Soil, learning how rock, sand, silt, clay, and humus are the key ingredients that make up soil.
